1). Successful Merger Synergies – How To Make It Work
“We tend to overestimate what we can accomplish in a day and underestimate what we can accomplish in a year.”

This is particularly true in the case of mergers or acquisitions. Recently, a company I founded, EMJ, was acquired by SYNNEX. Prior to that EMJ had acquired 12 other companies. The following is a list of lessons I have learned on how to do a successful merger.

2). Jim Estill's 8 Rules Of Time
I study the use of time and how to maximize productivity and enjoyment from it. From these studies, I have come up with the following list of time rules:

1 – It is more important to have clear goals than to be efficient. It is more important to work on the right things than to work efficiently. I liken this to the person who wants to get to Sudbury so gets in their car and drives 150 Km/hour.

3). Guerilla Versus Gorilla - Small Companies Can Win
We make our living as guerillas – not the bad kind, but more of a freedom fighter. By using the term ‘guerilla’ I mean EMJ (now a division of SYNNEX) fights for business against big gorillas (other distributors) in the field. Our competitors are almost 100 times our size; EMJ is a Canadian-based, $165 million per year distributor. We have made an operating profit for the past 80 consecutive quarters.

4). 60 Minutes To Clear Goals
I think that most people would agree that the people who have goals are more successful than those who do not have any.

I often talk about leadership and management. Leadership is about doing the right things while management is about doing things right. Often when we study time management, we study efficiency (doing things right) and make the assumption that we have the effectiveness (leadership) solved.

5). Good Ways To Procrastinate And When Procrastination Might Be Good
Good ways to Procrastinate and when Procrastination might be good.

I am writing this with the din of jackhammers in background. I am working on the weekend (surprising at that might be); feeling sorry for myself that I cannot get good quiet uninterrupted time in like I had planned.

I thought I would write an article on Procrastination since that is what I am doing now.

6). The Top 10 Ways To Grow Your Small Business
I started my company (EMJ) from the trunk of my car (and it was a small trunk so that’s a small business). I grew EMJ to $375,000,000 in sales prior to selling it to SYNNEX. I am now CEO of a $1 billion business.

Many of our most important customers are small business people. I make a study out of what makes them successful and what pitfalls they need to avoid.

7). The Ten Cardinal Rules Of Blogging
It was easier when I was running EMJ, since I had built EMJ slowly over 25 years so people got to know me better as the company grew. At SYNNEX, I have a whole new group of people who wondered about who I was. Blogging was one way to bridge this gap.

I am a life long learner. Doing SYNNEX threw me into a huge and fast learning curve. Part of me wants to share and inspire people.

8). Efficient Blogging
One of the challenges of blogging is to come up with good posts that interest readers and keep them coming back. Sometimes I do not feel like I have good original wisdom. It is presumptuous to think I can have top quality original material all the time.

A second challenge is the time to blog. I run a $1 Billion dollar company so when I decided to blog I knew I needed to figure out how to do it efficiently.

9). 12 Ways To Maximize Time And Life
My business experience has taught me one true thing: That maximizing your productivity, happiness, peace, or impact can best be accomplished if you clearly understand the 12 Rules of Time.

1. Have goals

Being more efficient with your time is irrelevant if you don't know how you want to spend it. In managing time, the compass is more important than the clock.

10). 9 Ways To Network Easily
One of the easiest ways to increase sales is through networking and one of the best ways to network is to network easily. What I mean by this is to do things that come naturally to you.

Some of the ideas that can be helpful for networking are:

1. Join groups that you would be interested in joining. For example, if you like to run, join a running group; if you like to play bridge, join a bridge group; if you would like to go to church, become a member of a congregation.

11). An Online Home Based Business Can Change Your Life
Owning your own business means that you will have the freedom to spend time with family. You will need to invest time and money into your home business to keep it running.
